エネルギー問題の現状は？
The price of oil, which was stagnant through the 1980s and 1990s following two oil crisis, has risen sharply since 2000.
In addition toaccelerating demand in rapidly growing emerging countries like China, demand in the US, the worlds largest consumer of oil, has also continued to grow. Meanwhile, investment in oil drilling was curbed for many years because of low prices, and there has been a lag in the expansion of production capacity.
The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the Iraq war, which began in 2003, also caused heightened governmental and military conflicts between the oil-producing countries of the Middle East and developed countries, particularly the US.
二度の石油危機の後、８０年代以降の石油価格は低迷したが、２００年代に入って再び高騰している。
中国等高成長新興国の需要が急速に伸びている上、世界一の消費国である米国の需要も伸び続けている。一方で、長年の低価格によって石油採掘の投資が抑えられ、生産能力の拡大は遅れている。
また、０１年の９．１１テロや０３年のイラク戦争など、中東産油国と先進国（特に米国）との間での新たな政治的・軍事的対立が高まったという事情もある。
